Tomotherapy is a type of radiation therapy that combines the benefits of radiation therapy with the precision of intensive irradiation techniques. During the tomotherapy session, the patient lies down on a table that moves inside an annular device (tomotherapy machine). This device irradiates the tumor with narrow beams of radiation that rotate around the patient.
The main advantage of tomotherapy is that it allows you to maximize the concentration of radiation rays on the tumor, while minimizing the impact on surrounding healthy tissues. This helps to reduce the side effects of radiation therapy and increase the effectiveness of treatment.
Tomotherapy sessions are usually conducted in specialized radiation therapy centers under the supervision of experienced specialists. Prior to starting treatment, the patient is pre-planned to determine the optimal radiation dose and the exact location of the tumor for the most effective treatment.
