Surgical treatment of cataracts
Cataract surgery is a procedure aimed at removing the clouding of the lens in the eye, which allows you to restore vision. Cataract surgery is usually performed on an outpatient basis and is one of the most common and successful operations in medicine.
Here are the main stages of cataract surgery:
- Preparation: Preoperative eye drops may be prescribed to the patient to reduce the risk of infection and reduce inflammation after surgery.
- Surgical intervention: The operation is performed using microsurgical methods. There are several cataract removal techniques, but the most common include phacoemulsification. During this procedure, the surgeon uses ultrasound emulsification to destroy the clouded lens, which is then removed from the eye.
- Intraocular Lens Implantation (IOL): After removal of the clouded lens, an artificial intraocular lens is inserted into the eye to restore transparency and focus vision.
- Recovery: Drops and medications may be prescribed to the patient to prevent infection and speed up the healing process.
- Postoperative follow-up: After surgery, the patient is recommended to visit an ophthalmologist regularly to monitor and evaluate the results of the operation.
Surgical treatment of cataracts is usually a safe and effective way to restore vision in patients with clouded lens.
