Removal of kidney cyst
Removal of a kidney cyst may be necessary if the cyst causes symptoms such as pain, bleeding, or infections, or if it threatens kidney function. There are various methods for removing kidney cysts, and the choice of method depends on the size and location of the cyst, as well as the general condition of the patient.
- Laparoscopic surgery: In this procedure, small incisions are made in the abdominal wall through which a laparoscope (a thin flexible tube with a video camera) is inserted. The surgeon uses a laparoscope to view the inner abdominal area and removes the cyst.
- Percutaneous sclerotherapy: This is a procedure in which, under X-ray control, a special substance is injected into the cyst, which causes its compression and reduction. This method is usually used for smaller cysts.
- Open surgery: In some cases, especially if the cyst is very large or complex, traditional open surgery may be required to remove the cyst.
The choice of method depends on the specific situation and should be discussed with a urologist or surgeon. It is important to discuss all the possible risks and benefits of each method before making a treatment decision.
