Removal of a bladder tumor
Removal of a bladder tumor can be performed by various methods, depending on the type of tumor, its size and prevalence. Some of the main methods of bladder tumor removal include:
- Transurethral resection of the bladder (TUR): This is one of the most common methods of removing a bladder tumor. The procedure is performed using a cystoscope inserted through the urethra to remove the tumor using an electric loop instrument.
- Cystectomy: In cases of more serious tumors that spread beyond the lining of the bladder, it may be necessary to remove the entire bladder. This procedure is called a cystectomy and usually involves removing part of the urethra and creating a new outlet for urine (urethrostomy) or creating a new bladder from the intestine (neocystostomy).
- Radiation therapy and chemotherapy: Sometimes radiation therapy and chemotherapy can be used as additional treatments for a bladder tumor, especially if the tumor cannot be completely surgically removed.
Each specific case requires an individual approach, and the decision on the treatment method should be made by the doctor based on the characteristics of the tumor and the general condition of the patient.
