Osteosynthesis
Osteosynthesis is a surgical procedure aimed at restoring the integrity and function of bones. It may involve the use of various methods and materials to fix and align fractures or damaged bones.
Osteosynthesis can be performed using internal or external fixators.
- Internal osteosynthesis involves the installation of internal fixators, such as metal plates, nails, or screws, to stabilize fractures. These materials usually remain inside the body after the bones heal.
- External osteosynthesis involves the use of external devices such as rings or retainers that are positioned outside the body to maintain alignment and stabilization of bones.
Osteosynthesis may be necessary in the case of severe fractures, non-healing fractures, deformities, or if limb function needs to be restored. This procedure is usually performed by experienced orthopedic surgeons and can significantly increase the chances of rapid bone healing and recovery after injury or surgery.
