Novalis Knife is a radio system developed by Varian Medical Systems and BrainLAB. The installation is a radioactive particle accelerator combined with an X-ray system. This design allows radiation to be carried out under the constant supervision of a doctor. With the help of the Novalis radio system, malignant tumors of any localization are treated without harm to nearby healthy tissues.
How the Novalis installation works
Unlike radiosurgical gamma installations, the Novalis system uses photonic electromagnetic radiation. It can be applied once or dosed for a long time. An X-ray machine makes it possible to create a three-dimensional image of a tumor and determine the area of the beam.
Unlike other radiosurgical systems, the Novalis installation does not use a robotic arm guiding the radiation beam, but a table on which the patient is placed. This allows you to take into account the slightest human movements and direct a beam of charged particles with an accuracy of 0.4 millimeters.
Novalis treatment abroad and in Russia
Before starting therapy, the patient undergoes an examination, according to the results of which doctors determine the place of irradiation and the intensity of the charged particle beam. Depending on the stage of development of the disease, the procedure is performed once or for five days over a period of four to eight weeks.
The area of impact of the beam reaches forty centimeters, it can cover both a tumor and metastases.
Currently, Novalis radio system treatment is one of the safest, as it does not affect healthy tissues and leaves no traces of radiation in the body.
Prices for Novalis
The Novalis installation requires high technological equipment and specially equipped rooms. The Novalis system is installed abroad in many medical institutions, so it is easier to enroll in Novalis abroad than in Russia. In our country, medical centers in Moscow and regional capitals can afford to install Novalis. The cost of a session on Novalis in Russia ranges from 100,000 to 350,000 thousand rubles. The price abroad varies depending on the degree of development of the disease and the country in which the treatment is carried out.
