Neurosonography in modern medicine is called ultrasound examination of the newborn's brain. The method is the most modern, effective and safe way to obtain information about the condition of a child's brain and how it functions. The price of neurosonography is fully correlated with the quality and productivity of the procedure, which makes it possible to identify pathologies that have not yet developed in time. Neurosonography is particularly effective abroad, where clinics are equipped with the most modern equipment, and doctors are world-class specialists.
Indications for neurosonography
Any newborn needs to undergo at least one preventive neurosonography session. However, there are children who need timely neurosonography. Abroad and in Russia, the procedure is mandatory.:
- premature babies;
- infants with intrauterine hypotrophy;
- infants with an abnormal skull shape;
- infants who suffered oxygen starvation (hypoxia) during intrauterine development or childbirth;
- infants with birth injuries and any pathologies of the development of various organs;
- infants with suspected infectious or neurological diseases.
How much does neurosonography cost? The price of the procedure is, as a rule, no more than $ 1,000. The amount, in any case, is not small, but it is justified by the results of the procedure. After all, neurosonography, which has approximately the same cost abroad and in Russia, is capable of detecting a fairly wide range of pathologies with high accuracy.
The course of the procedure
Ultrasound can be performed in two ways, with different "channels" through which impulses travel to the brain. The first option is through a special area (the so–called "anterior fontanel") located between the frontal and parietal bones. The second is through similar areas on the temples and the large occipital foramen. The desired area is lubricated with a special gel, after which the doctor performs an examination using a sensor, guiding it over the child's head. The cost of neurosonography does not depend on the specific method.
Neurosonography results
Neurosonography provides information about developmental pathologies, various features of the structure and functions of the infant's brain.:
- the structure of the ventricles of the brain. Ventricular enlargement indicates diseases such as rickets and hydrocephalus, and a change in their shape indicates ventricular hemorrhages.;
- the condition of the cerebral vessels. It is possible to determine the presence of vascular aneurysms that disrupt intracerebral circulation and are fraught with hemorrhages.;
- arachnoid cysts. These are cavities filled with fluid and pressing on certain areas of the brain, which can trigger epilepsy.;
- ischemia. The disease consists in a lack of oxygen, leading to the death of brain nerve cells, which can lead to a serious illness – leukomalacia.;
- meningitis. The disease is expressed in the deformation of the membranes of the brain;
- tumors. High-precision equipment allows neurosonography abroad to detect even malignant neoplasms in infants.
Based on the results of the procedure, the doctor prescribes the necessary treatment.
