Endocrinological diagnostics
Endocrinological diagnostics is aimed at identifying and assessing disorders in the endocrine system. It includes various methods for assessing the function of the endocrine glands and hormonal balance in the body.
1. Medical history:
- Detailed information about the symptoms, their duration and severity
- Medical history and family history
- Information about medications, allergies, and other potential risk factors
2. Physical examination:
- Examination of the general constitution, skin, hair and nails
- Palpation of the thyroid gland, lymph nodes, and other endocrine glands
- Blood pressure and weight measurement
3. Laboratory tests:
- Blood tests: Measurement of hormone levels (e.g. TSH, T4, cortisol, insulin) and other biomarkers of endocrine function
- Urine tests: Assessment of hormonal balance and detection of signs of impaired kidney function
- Genetic research: Identification of genetic mutations or abnormalities associated with endocrine diseases
4. Diagnostic procedures:
- Ultrasound of the thyroid gland: Visualization of the thyroid gland to assess its size, shape and structure
- Thyroid Scintigraphy: Using a radioactive isotope to assess thyroid function and anatomy
- Glucose tolerance test: Assessment of the body's response to glucose administration to detect disorders of carbohydrate metabolism
- Growth Hormone Test: Stimulation of growth hormone production to assess pituitary function
5. Visualization:
- Radiography, ultrasound, or MRI can be used to visualize endocrine glands such as the pituitary gland, adrenal glands, or pancreas and identify structural abnormalities or neoplasms.
6. Differential diagnosis:
- Comparison of symptoms and signs of a disease with similar conditions
- Consideration of possible causes and risk factors
- Exclusion of other diseases with similar manifestations
Endocrinological diagnosis can be a complex process requiring thorough examination, laboratory tests and, if necessary, diagnostic procedures. Making an accurate diagnosis is crucial for prescribing appropriate treatment and preventing complications.
