Indications for dermatoscopy

Dermatoscopy is performed according to subjective and objective indications.

The first include the following symptoms:

  • Itching and burning of the skin
  • Ulceration and bleeding

  • Changes in moles (pain, rapid growth, deformities, etc.)
  • Accidental injury of a mole

Objective indications are suspicions of various diseases, primarily "black skin cancer" or melanoma.

In addition to melanoma, dermatoscopy clarifies the following pathologies:

  • "White skin cancer" (basal cell carcinoma)
  • Squamous cell carcinoma
  • Solar and senile keratosis
  • Seborrheic keratosis
  • Dermatofibroma
  • Pigmented nevus
  • Atheroma
  • Lipoma

FotoFinder Bodystudio technologies are widely used in foreign clinics, which have a number of significant advantages over conventional dermatoscopy.

How is a dermatoscopy performed abroad?

Dermatoscopy is a non–invasive examination that requires no preparation. It is absolutely safe and comfortable for the patient. It is performed using a special device that generates ultraviolet radiation and takes a picture in a resolution of up to 72 megapixels. The device is brought to the skin and photographs are taken, and then an enlarged image with marked pathological areas is examined on the monitor.

Digital dermatoscopy has a number of advantages:

  • Precise automated operation of the camera and device
  • Deep image analysis by the device
  • Determination of cell specificity and sensitivity
  • High quality image reproduction
  • Getting the result in 3 minutes
  • Detailed interpretation

Following the results of the dermatoscopy, the patient may be prescribed additional procedures – ultrasound, CT, MRI and others. In the course of the study, it is possible to take a biopsy for histological and cytological examinations in the laboratory.

Foreign doctors recommend preventive dermatoscopy to anyone at risk for melanoma. It should be performed once a year. If dangerous pathologies are detected, foreign doctors will quickly orient themselves in drawing up a therapeutic plan and give advice on stopping the progression of the disease.
