Indications for CT scan

During the examination, a certain area of the body is scanned by passing X-rays through the tissues. The rays pass through the structures at different angles, which makes it possible to assess their condition volumetrically and crosswise. Unlike outdated X-ray examinations, CT carries a minimal radiation load on the body, therefore it is considered safe and universal.

CT is especially often used to diagnose pathologies of the musculoskeletal system, digestive tract and respiratory system.

Tomography visualizes the following abnormalities in the body:

  • Occlusion, stenosis and thrombosis of veins and arteries, including ischemic and hemorrhagic strokes
  • Internal bleeding
  • Degenerative changes in bone and connective tissues
  • Osteoporosis
  • Hernias and protrusions of intervertebral discs
  • Congenital and acquired heart defects
  • Cystic, polypous, and other benign neoplasms of internal organs, bones, and soft tissues
  • Inflammatory processes
  • Primary and secondary (metastatic) malignant tumors

The specifics of CT scans vary depending on the area under study. No preparation is required for the diagnosis of bones, joints, and soft tissues, but if the stomach or intestines are being examined, it is advisable to perform the procedure on an empty stomach. To clarify the presence of cancer and metastases, CT is performed with contrast, injecting a substance either into the subclavian port or into a vein.

CT can also be useful when planning the volume of an upcoming surgical intervention and tracking the dynamics after it.

Advantages of CT abroad

CT scans abroad are performed using expert-class equipment, which provides the highest quality multi-slice image. The diagnostic result is recorded on a digital medium, which facilitates the process of systematization and storage of medical documents, including upon the patient's return home.

Other advantages of CT scans in foreign clinics:

  • The use of safe contrast agents
  • The possibility of conducting in an open and closed scanner
  • High information content of the procedure
  • Ultra-fast diagnostic process thanks to CT scanners with up to 640 sections
  • Assistance from experienced radiologists at all stages of preparation for the study

CT does not apply to screening procedures, and is prescribed only by the attending physician for specific indications. In foreign clinics, comprehensive diagnosis and differentiation of the disease is carried out from the early stages, and then individually developed therapy is selected.
